Raka Moitra Bhaduri

How we came to be ...Saptak School of Music was founded by Raka Moitra Bhaduri in 2015 in Austin, TX. Saptak is a result of Raka's lifelong commitment and love for music, teaching and learning. One of the overarching themes at Saptak is the emphasis on Indian (Hindustani) Classical music. We believe that all genres Indian music, across all languages and cultures in the Indian sub-continent, has its foundation in classical concepts and elements like Raaga (Scale) and Taala (Rhythm). We work at making our students see how these fundamental concepts of Hindustani Raaga Sangeet are at play in any lesson they seek.

We believe music encourages intellectual, artistic and spiritual exchanges between an instructor and a student. Practicing music, and the pursuit of continuous improvement in the art, also helps to develop strong values and work ethic in the practitioner. Therefore, Saptak School of Music is dedicated to preserve and promote the musical tradition and culture of India through the process of learning and development. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, your inputs contribute immensely to the classes.

Who we are ...Raka received her first training in Hindustani classical music when she was 3 years old. Her first guru was her mother Shrimati Aparajita Maitra, an All India Radio artist, and disciple of Pt. Shrikant Bakre of Kirana Gharana and Pt. Jagdish Prasad of Patiala Gharana. Raka was later trained by Shri Buddhadeb Sengupta on different genres of Indian music from Bhajan, Folk, Rabindrasangeet, Nazrulgeeti, to name few.
